You Better Belize it!
The largest island in Belize, Ambergris is in close proximity to both the Barrier Reef and mainland. Popular among travelers, the island boasts a variety of water related activities that include windsurfing, sailing, jet-skiing and snorkeling. Other draws to Ambergris Caye include bird watching, fishing and some of the best palate pleasing Belizean cuisine. Guests can enjoy traveling around the island by way of rented golf cart.
What was your favorite experience of the whole trip?
Everything about the trip was just amazing. I really enjoyed how all of the locals, at the resorts, restaurants and in general, were very welcoming. Everything was very authentic and natural. As far as activities, I loved the zip lining and snorkeling. Snorkeling near the Barrier Reef was pretty spectacular.
We went inland to the jungle when we first arrived, which was gorgeous. If you like adventure, and want to try something new…this place is awesome! Some of us went zip lining through the jungle, and some went cave tubing. Both were amazing! Then we took our bus, and a short plane ride to our final destination for the evening, Ambergris Caye. We toured several resorts, and transferred to each of them by boat. So, there is the jungle, and beach…really something for everyone looking for an adventure or just taking it easy on a beautiful beach.
Are there things to do for: families, couples, adults only, adventure seekers, beach bums?
Absolutely! When we first arrived, we took a bus from the airport to a beautiful location to zip line or take a cave tour. Each of us got to pick which one we wanted to do. Before we split up, we had an awesome lunch by the river in a little hut in the woods. We also got to choose between snuba or snorkeling at the Barrier Reef. The resort pools were refreshing, and the beaches were very inviting. There are also adult only options for couples to enjoy.
So you went snuba… how was that experience?
Ah, this was such a fun experience! We took a boat ride out close to the Barrier Reef, and could choose to snuba or snorkel. It was interesting how the salt water pretty much held you up while you went snorkeling! I didn’t expect that, and wasn’t too sure so I wore a life jacket anyway. We saw a lot of sea creatures… nurse sharks, dolphins, eels…so much plant life. It was beautiful. On a side note, they also have tours to the Great Blue Hole, which also looks amazing.
How was the flight to Belize?
We connected in Atlanta to get to Belize City and then from Belize City we had a 25 minute flight on a smaller plane to Ambergris Caye...not long at all but if there are people who are nervous about small planes, it's not necessarily a great option for them.
You toured a lot of different resorts…do you have a favorite?
We did tour several resorts. There are really options for every budget and personal preference. My absolute favorite was Ramon's Village Resort in San Pedro, Belize. This resort featured authentic Palm Thatched Cabanas, fabulous beach, lagoon style pool, Ramon's Village Divers scuba diving center, Pineapples Restaurant, Tropic Al's and the Tiki Turtle Trading Company.
The cabanas were so quaint and mostly secluded from each other. You walked on a trail through palms trees and other native flowers. This resort is very close to town, you could walk or rent a golf cart to go into town.
Was the food up to par?
Everything we had at the resorts was fresh and delicious. We went to an amazing place for dinner one evening… it was actually at Ramon’s Village Resort, Pineapple's. They brought a huge platter of food out and you cooked it yourself on a hot plate right at the table. Seafood, steak, vegi’s. It was amazing. What made it even better was that we got to the restaurant by boat, and most tables were outside… roof but all sides were open.
Are there all-inclusive options?
Some resorts in Belize can have some sort of meal plan, but there is only one that is all-inclusive which is on private island.
Belize is lovely, and if anyone has an opportunity to visit this beautiful country, definitely do it. This is a destination that should be on your bucket list.
